At the end of the Spring semester, dozens of students and families renting homes from the University of South Alabama will have to move out.
Earlier this month, the school sent notices to those living in 19 homes in the Hillsdale community.

Some students contacted News Five saying they felt like they were being forced out of their homes without much notice.

A spokesperson said that the housing department actually warned students about the possibility of having to leave years ago.
"Five years ago we had 700 houses in Hillsdale. Now we're down to about 150 houses. So this is not something that started suddenly. This is just something that we've been gradually doing over the last five years. So it's not a sudden movement it was approved by our board of trustees in 2004, I believe," said University of South Alabama spokesperson Keith Ayers.

USA says it is getting out of the single family housing rental business. Eventually all the u-s-a rental homes will be torn down.

News Five has also learned that once the homes are torn down, the land will be used for the new Jags football team field house and storage facility.

The building on University north of the old Alpha dorms is the Allied Health building. The new building they just broke ground for across from Stanky field, along Old Shell Road, is the Rec center. The building going up on Old Shell with the doors framed in front of the soccer field will house the the new locker rooms and bathrooms for soccer and softball. Football practice fields will have practice fields and a possible temp field house in part of Hillsdale, west of the intramural fields. For now, we are going to play our football games at LADD stadium.

Does anyone hear NORTHRUP Stadium in our future?

Anyway, this topic has disintegrated beyond the original news article. It’s summer time and I’m moving out. You guys have fun!

Being a believer in proper diet and exercize, I never park as close as I can, and I don’t ride the Jag Tran, that’s how I keep from being a fatty like most the people I see on that stupid thing.

“We need a parking garage more than we need new students!!!”

Wow, that ranks right up there with one of the more insane comments I’ve ever heard.  Have you ever been to other college campuses?  If you had, you would know that it is a luxury to have front door service to your class building.

I get so tired of people complaining about parking.  There are tons of spots at MCOB, at the Library, and at Humanities. Do what every other college student does at most other larger institutions and find a spot and WALK! Or ride the Jagtran, whatever.

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard that there might be some sort of child daycare something or other in the new rec center.

The lower parking lot near the current rec building would look lovely with a three story garage based on the architectural design used on our stands at the baselball field. Just LOVELY!

All the new students will park in the new Hillsdale parking lot next to the football stadium and take Jagtran.

Soutfan: We need a parking garage more than we need new students!!!

I’m still wondering where all these students that the football team is going to bring are going to park!!!
