In it's May issue, Black Enterprise Magazine highlights 140 physicians who are "responsible for saving millions of lives through the revolutionary treatment of diseases"
"The exceptional black physicians we highlight uniquely understand the medical issues that confront African Americans," said Earl G. Graves Sr., the magazine's founder and publisher. "Their expertise makes them an essential part of the solution to the health care crisis facing black Americans and our entire nation.”
Dr. Scantlebury is one of only a few female African-American transplant surgeons in the world -- and the first in the United States. She was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh before being appointed professor of surgery at USA and director of the Gulf Coast Regional Transplant Center in 2002.In 2006, Mobile City Councilman Fred Richardson presented a proclamation recognizing Dr. Scantlebury for the difference she is making in the health of our community.
