Results from lab tests came back today and indicate the 6th Grade Building is ready to reoccupy. Clearance from the Alabama Department of Public Health is expected to come Tuesday (2/18). We hope to make an announcement soon when 6th Graders can return to campus. Our kindergarten, first and third graders came back as if nothing ever happened. We had a great day today, and we appreciate your help with our return!

All cleanup efforts on the campus continue to be under the watchful eye of the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and Alabama Safe State Schools. These state agencies have certified that the cleanup companies are properly credentialed in dealing with lead.

On Day 37 (last Tuesday) of the clean up, a representative from the state agency that governs general contractors licenses visited the campus and ruled that environmentalist PPM and haz-mat response company US, Inc. should have general contractor licenses, the type of license that would be issued to a builder or construction company. Both companies have stated that they disagree with that position. Both companies agreed to halt operations until this matter was sorted out. American Environmental, which has been on site since the start, continued to remove dumpsters to get the campus ready for students to return. In addition, our hard-working Baldwin County Public Schools maintenance team also worked hard to get the campus in order so we have not missed a beat.

The issue with the general contractors license is a business matter that we hope will be resolved soon; It did not delay progress because it came up as we were winding down Phase I of the campus cleanup. We do not expect this to delay our progress to complete the work. We still have about 10 classrooms to be cleaned in the flat tops, along with a bathroom and an office, along with other clean up tasks. The state agencies continue to direct the clean up process.

We wanted you to know about the general contractors development from us first hand before you heard it in the news media which sometimes can amplify a matter; We're also very glad to be able to share today's report about the 6th Grade Building. Hopefully, we'll have even more good news to report soon.

Thank you very much for your continued patience and understanding as we work together to bring a challenging situation to an end and we're all back together!
