Sheriff's investigators in Baldwin County have arrested a teenager they say killed one of his friends. 18-year old Brandon Hackworth
has been charged with murder and is awaiting a bond hearing in Bay Minette. Sheriff Hoss Mack says Hackworth confessed to killing 19-year old Jessie Dade outside a home on County Road 66 in Loxley."The two teens had known each other for years," says Mack. "This is a tragedy for the Ellisville community. A young man is dead and it's been an emotional day for everyone involved."
Family members and friends of Dade cried uncontrollably when a coroner removed Dade's body. Deputies say Dade died from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.
"He was a good kid," says Ronnie McBride. McBride is Dade's cousin. "Right now we're just going to pray for the family and we're going to pray for the community and hopefully that'll bring the family together."
Sheriff's deputies recovered the weapon used in the homicide and fitted the suspect with a bullet-proof vest when he was arrested at the crime scene.
"We put the vest on for his safety," says Mack. "The community is very upset about what happened and we did it as a protective measure."
