blamed for at least seven deaths and damaging hundreds of homes.
Emergency officials initially reported eight deaths from the
storms but have since revised the figure downward. This year's
storm death toll in the state is now up to 23.
Thunderstorms tore up parts of four states, and forecasters are
warning that some states should prepare for more.
This morning, the National Weather Service posted tornado
watches for parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama as an arc
of strong thunderstorms rolled across the region. One storm today
has damaged homes in southeastern Louisiana, and police say a
highway in St. Tammany Parish was blocked by water as much as 3
feet deep.
