"A driver spotted this child walking near Highway 29 near a McDonald's," says Glenn Austin, Public Information Officer with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. "The little boy was darting in and out of traffic and then crossed a busy street over to a gas station."
Austin says the mother and her son had just checked in to a nearby motel.
"We couldn't find the mother when we found the child," says Austin. "So we started searching a motel and found a door open there and found the mother passed out. Deputies found alcohol and marijuana inside the room."
Thankfully, the little boy wasn't hurt.
"It's a miracle this child wasn't hit by a car, kidnapped or killed," says Austin.
Lewis' bond has been set at three-thousand dollars. The boy is now staying with his grandmother.
