Construction begins next year on the steel mill at Calvert on the border of Mobile and Washington counties. Operations could begin in 2010, creating 2,700 jobs.
The 3 p.m. meeting in the Chatom Community Center is sponsored by the Alabama Rural Action Commission.
The meeting will focus on ways communities can prepare for changes in their communities including population increases, infrastructure needs, road improvements and other challenges.
In a statement, Gov. Bob Riley said a project of this magnitude will bring enormous changes in southwest Alabama.
He pledged to continue working with the state's partners at the local level to make sure everyone is prepared for them.
