Published: Wed, May 21, 2008 - 12:23 pm
Mobile Police are investigating the robbery of the Bay Bank branch on Highway 90 in Theodore.
The holdup happened around 10:30 this (Wednesday) morning.
Investigators say the robber loitered inside the bank for several minutes before walking up to a teller, pulling a handgun, and demanding money.
Witnesses say he got away in a car that looked like a light blue late model Ford Thunderbird or Mercury Cougar with yellow paint showing through on the back of the car.
The robber is described as a white man in his late 30's or early 40's, about 5'10" tall weighing 180-190 pounds. He was wearing a long sleeved, button-down shirt, bue jeans and a baseball cap.
Mobile Police say they will release surveillance pictures of the robber at a later time.
Bay Bank is in the same shopping center as the Mobile County Sheriff's Office substation on Highway 90 West.

The question is,What do they consider a later time to release the surveillance photos? Hopefully not a week or two later after the incident and not all those fuzzy photos.

bobalso:  that information is incorrect, the Mobile County Sheriffs have jurisdiction in both the city and the county, however by default Thedore’s dispatch probably sends the calls to the city. If the sheriffs wanted or needed to be involved, they could. Not that they gonna go out of their way to do so.

beacon78: as many times as I’ve seen dealers sell crack and weed in front of both the county and city officers, from West Mobile to East Mobile, don’t expect me to believe they go “above and beyond”. They do what they gotta do to get away with earning a check, no more. If they were ALL out doing their jobs, drugs would not be so easy to find, EVEN IF YOU NOT LOOKING, from Grand Bay to 8Mile there’s numerous places you can go, and not know ANYONE, and be approached by a drug dealer. You gonna tell me that the same person will not approach a under-cover officer? I used to work on near Bay Bridge Road, and you could not go to a gas station, to buy gas without being approached.

it is the dumbest ever, the bank is not allowed to call the sheriffs office. they have to call the city of mobile. the sheriffs has no control over it in that area even though they are next door.
they were very brave and stupid to do so, but that is mobile county for ya

I just went to MobileSO.com and I couldn’t find any info about that Theodore Division.  I think it has an unlisted number.  big surprise

Off Topic: Anyone know what is being built out that way behind Wendy’s and the Waffle House?

Beacon78, you sound tired, overworked, and very sensitive.  We are just having fun. Relax, kick up your feed and laugh at us if you can’t laugh with us.  grin

beacon78 I know that they sell drugs in downtown Mobile so does that mean we should go door to door searching for drugs?  I know that they have a hard job but so does everyone else they choose to be police officers.  And as far as the Safety Checkpoints they are illegal.  If they were doing check points for drunk drivers that would be fine but doing them for insurance is a crime and a waste of Tax payers Money.  They should be out patroling and taking calls verse sitting there writing tickets that are going to get thrown out when they either find their proof of insurance or they buy insurance either way they go to court and it gets thrown out.  What a way to waste everyone’s time.

HAHAHA, this has got to be a slap in the face to the Mobile County Sheriffs Office. Am i mistaken, or isn’t their office right in that very same shopping center? I new when I first seen that bank installed in that little corner, it would not be before someone hit it up, it’s 3 mins from Theodore’s CrackVille and it’s small.  LMAO, I can almost see the expression on Sheriff Cochran’s face as he chokes on his donut and spits coffee across the room, hearing the call across the radio.  blank stare

All of you people need to take a day off from work and go walk a mile in an officer’s shoes while he’s working the midnight shift and maybe you’ll see how thing’s really are. It’s called a substation. The deputies may have been out patrolling the streets or answering other calls. Just because the station is there doesn’t mean there are deputies there. Everyone seems to have a problem with these safety checkpoints, but the first time one of you guys get hit by someone with a suspended license or no insurance you’ll be wanting to know why the police let this guy drive around while breaking the law. Officers can’t be everywhere all the time. Criminals look for crimes of opportunity. They don’t just decide hey lets rob this bank. They know what they’re doing. They’ll make a mistake and they’ll be caught.

The sheriff deputies were probably all too busy going after people with junk in their yards out in the county.
