It happened early Wednesday (4/30) morning in Long Beach. Seventeen-year-old Xochilt Parra gave birth before school. No one was home at the time so she wrapped up the newborn, got dressed, and walked about four blocks to St. Mary Medical Center.
Parra came through the hospital's cafeteria doors. The cleaning crew and security guard got her up to the labor and delivery floor where nurses delivered her placenta and took care of the baby.
Nurses say the baby came in blue, suffering from hypothermia.
Thursday, Parra and baby Alejandro were resting easy at the hospital. Nurses say Alejandro weighed in at over eight-pounds. Both are expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.
Parra says her mother didn't know she was pregnant because she never told her. She says she plans to keep her baby and raise it with the help of her family.
