with manslaughter in the apparent accidental shooting death of a
15-year-old friend whose hunter orange cap was covered by a hooded
coat.
A distraught Michael Newman initially told investigators
yesterday (Thursday) he fired at a deer when the bullet missed,
then struck and killed Joey Drescher. Later, Newman said he simply
shot at movement in a pine thicket. He thought the movement was a
deer.
The shot from his .270 caliber rifle struck Drescher in the
chest. Newman said he ran out of the woods, found his grandfather,
and the two went to a store to call police.
Drescher was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:30 a.m.,
about four hours after the two friends from the Tumbleton community
walked into the woods.
Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox said Newman was released on
bond. He said a grand jury will review the case.

Home Invasion Suspect Arrested

@guest Everyone has there on beliefs. I belive in God. I also believe that when God is ready for you to come home he will send for you. No one knows why things happen the way they do. I do believe that the devil can play a part in death. If it was not ment for this boy to go home to God then he will be with us today. If he was not shot by his freind then I believe that he would had died a different way. It was just his time to go. I hate that this happened. Just remember that what the devil intends for bad God turns into good. Maybe the lesson here is that you should always be sure that you are shooting at a deer or what ever it is you are hunnting for. My thoughts and prayers are with both families.
