32-year-old Sharon Rutherford was on trial for two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes. Rutherford, a teacher at Coffeeville High School, was arrested in April of last year. The investigation began in 2004 when someone sent an unsigned letter to the school accusing Rutherford of sleeping with students. The school investigated and informed police.
But they had little to go on until April 5, 2006 when one of the students told Principal Janice Richardson that he had slept with Rutherford. Her teaching license has since been taken away.
Sentencing in the case will be on December 10th.
Rutherford is also accused of trying to recruit one of the students to kill her husband. For that, she faces a Solicitation for Murder charge. That trial will be set for a later date.
Rutherford's husband has since filed for divorce. James Rutherford now lives in East Alabama with their two daughters.
The case has taken the national spotlight so the judge in the case has issued a gag order for everyone involved in the trial.

College Students Die In Crash

I agree with both comments. The case in question in Washington County gets even more despicable. Seems as thought the school finds it ok to let an accused child molester walk around campus, with the victim present and the other 820 + students there. She is supposed to be on paid administrative leave, until the case is heard and a verdict given. But the reasoning behind this decision, is she has children who attend Jr. High there also. Where is the justice for the victims when TEACHERS go wild?
