Newton was cleared of charges of enticing a child and enticing a child by computer.
He was, however, convicted of interfering with the child's custody, which is a felony.
He will be sentenced June 5th.
According to the defense, the 14-year old boy was having problems at home and had turned to Newton for help.
Newton taught seventh grade at J. Larry Newton School in Fairhope.
