Many people living in Mt. Vernon are hoping German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp will pick their city to build a nearly 3 billion dollar plant. If that happens, thousands of new jobs could be coming to Mobile County. The company's website says the proposed site is on the Tombigbee River in North Mobile County and South Washington County. ThyssenKrupp is considering the site in Alabama and another proposed site in Louisiana. We talked with neighbors and business owners in Mt. Vernon who want ThyssenKrupp to move in. One Mt. Vernon gas station owner we talked to says the plant could bring his business a big boost, "they should build it here because there's a lot of poor people and poor community. They could help. They need help. They looking for job so they can get a good opportunity to work and they will spend money in my store," said Mt. Vernon gas station owner, Mohammed Hoque. The Mayor of Mt. Vernon says he hopes ThyssenKrupp will build in North Mobile County. He says it will give Mt. Vernon a much needed economic boost.
ThyssenKrupp has set up a website about the proposed Alabama location. To check it out for yourself, click here.
