The state of Alabama might protest the release of the man who shot former Governor George Wallace more than three decades ago.
A spokesman for Attorney General Troy King says the state is trying to determine if there is anything it can do to block the release of Arthur Bremer from a Maryland prison. King spokesman Chris Bence says Bremer's crime was so bad he should not be freed.
Wallace was seeking the Democratic presidential nomination when he was shot in Laurel, Maryland in 1972. Wallace was paralyzed and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Three other people were injured.
Bremer was sentenced to life in prison. But Maryland authorities say he will be out by mid-December because of a law that lets inmates shave time off their sentences with good behavior.
