Magistrate Judge Michael Parker in Hattiesburg say State Farm is
suing Mississippi's attorney general Jim Hood.
State Farm is suing Hood for allegedly violating an agreement to
end a criminal investigation of the insurer's handling of claims on
the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.
Parker granted State Farm's request to unseal the complaint,
over Hood's objections.
State Farm's lawsuit also claims Hood reopened a criminal probe
of the company and its employees "for the purpose of harassment."
In a written statement today, Hood accused State Farm of trying
to -- quote -- misuse the federal court to stop a state grand jury
investigation.
Hood, who is seeking a second term in next Tuesday's Mississippi
general election, called the action "unfortunate."
