A Gulf Coast animal rescue group stepped in to help a young horse who was near death.Panhandle Equine Rescue says a five month old colt with an injured leg faced more health threats.
The colt's owner wanted to get the horse off its leg.
The owner put him in a homemade sling.
The rescue group says the horse was not getting enough food and water. The sling was also creating more injuries.
Panhandle Equine Rescue says the colt was by itself a majority of the day and night.
The owner voluntarily surrendered the horse over to the group and a veterinarian.
Panhandle Equine Rescue says the colt was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic and had many sores.
