- Baldwin County Schools spokesperson Terry Wilhite says the smoke was detected around 12:30 p.m.
- Students were evacuated as a precaution.
- No fire was found.
- Spanish Fort firefighters inspected the building and gave an all clear about 30 minutes later.
1:30 p.m.
- All clear given for students to return to class.
- Firefighters confirm a faulty air handler in the air conditioning system was to blame for the smoke.
- Maintenance crews are in the process of replacing the air handler.
- The smoke was located near the video lab in the 6th grade building.
- Students were evacuated from all buildings to the ballfield. When it began to rain, they were moved to the gym and cafeteria.
1:15 p.m.
Firefighters are at Spanish Fort Elementary School checking out the source of smoke in the building.
The school has been evacuated as a precaution.
No fire has been detected. Baldwin County school officials believe the smoke is coming from an air handler, which is part of the air conditioning system. According to an e-mail alert from the Baldwin County School's Notify Me system, school will dismiss at its normal time and students are fine.
