Siegelman's attorneys filed an appeal Friday with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta aking that he be released on bond while the court's judges consider his appeal. The 80-page appeal outlines issues Siegelman expects to argue in his appeal and says he has a good chance of having his conviction reversed.
Siegelman and former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy were convicted last year of bribery and other charges in government corruption case. Siegelman was sentenced to more than seven years in prison and is serving his sentence at the federal prison in Oakdale, Louisiana.
Scrushy was sentenced to almost seven years and is in the federal prison in Beaumont. Scrushy's attorneys filed a motion asking that he be released on an appeals bond shortly after the sentencing hearing. The appeals court has not ruled on that motion.

Since the Alabama news media hasn’t covered this case very thoroughly, why not go on-line and read through some back articles from Harper’s Magazine. They have written about Don Siegelman’s situation--and the political influence in the justice department in this state--and they have no bone to pick.
And while a guilty verdict was handed down, the very court system that convicted Siegelman is now under investigation.
