NEW YORK (AP) - There are major changes in the newest Associated
Press college football poll, and they benefit Ohio State and LSU.
The Buckeyes have climbed from third to first following
yesterday's losses by Missouri and West Virginia. Ohio State
received 50 of 65 first-place votes, while second-ranked LSU
grabbed 11. The Tigers had been fifth in the poll before
yesterday's win over Tennessee in the SEC championship game.
Oklahoma is third, ahead of Georgia and Virginia Tech.
Sixth-ranked Southern Cal is followed by Missouri, Kansas, Florida
and Hawaii. Missouri lost the Big 12 title game to Oklahoma
yesterday, ending the Tigers' BCS title hopes.
The Mountaineers dropped from second to 11th, putting them just
ahead of Arizona State, Illinois, Boston College and Clemson.
Tennessee is 16th, followed by Texas, Wisconsin, BYU and
Cincinnati.
Virginia, Auburn, South Florida, Boise State and Arkansas round
out the top 25.
