Searchers braved the wind and rain in what was supposed to be the eighth full day of looking for last of the four children believed to have been thrown from the Dauphin Island Bridge."It was cold, it was brutally cold," said Lt. Commander Bill Frost of the Mobile County Sheriff's Flotilla.
Frost says five boats hit the water Wednesday morning to search for one of the Luong sisters. That's only a small fraction of the 40 boats that have been involved in the effort since last week.
Despite the dreadful weather conditions, Lt. Ryan Bennett of the Alabama Marine Police says searchers remain focus.
"We've been pretty lucky," said Bennett. "Morale is high," he said.
Inclement weather and a lack of visibilty forced searchers to dock their boats just before 1:00 p.m., but Frost says a full staff of searchers will be back at work early Thursday morning.
Search crews have already recovered the bodies of three of the children. Four-month-old Danny Luong's body was discovered Saturday, and 3-year-old Ryan Phan's body was discovered Sunday. A third body, which has not been identified, was found Tuesday. Investigators say it is either Lindsey Luong, 1, or Hannah Luong, 2. The children's mother is waiting for the medical examiner's report to identify which sister it is.
The children's father, Lam Luong, is behind bars at the Mobile Metro Jail. He's charged with four counts of capital murder in connection with the children's deaths.
