"I can't believe he did it," says 11th grader Jeff McMillan. "I was in the gym and this guy pulled at a gun and pointed it at his head. Everybody was screaming and running for the door."
"I went to Davidson," says Jason Carpenter, a parent who rushed up to school to pick up his nephew. "I used to go here and can't believe something like this has happened."
News of the suicide spread like wildfire across Mobile. Parents rushed to the school to check on their children and get them off-campus. Security on campus was tightened. Police officers were visible near the main school entrance.
Counselors, police chaplans, and pastors met with students and faculty Thursday afternoon to talk about the suicide. The entire school community is trying to understand why 18-year old Jajuan Holmes killed himself in front of 150 of his classmates.
"It just doesn't make sense," says McMillan.
Davidson will be open Friday and classes will be held as usual. Counselors will be on campus to meet with students and faculty.
