NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A school district in Louisiana plans to appeal a federal judge's order that it stop allowing in-school Bible giveaways. The judge in New Orleans says the giveaways amount to school board promotion of Christianity, in violation of the separation of church and state. The Bibles were being given away by the Gideons International who'd set up a table outside the principal's office at a middle school. The principal e-mailed teachers, stressing that students didn't have to take one. But the ACLU filed a lawsuit for a family whose daughter said she felt pressured into taking a Bible even though she doesn't believe in God. The judge wrote that even procedures upheld as neutral for secondary school students might be out of bounds for "an impressionable young elementary-age child." KC, you take too much at face value for the term ‘secular humanism’, but if you just think about it, secular humanism is where each man is his OWN god; no rules, no morals, no ethics to live by other than what he or she dictates to be correct.  These are the people that use their time tearing down anything Biblical because they DO NOT want God or anyone else making them feel guilty for doing something.  So, if they destroy everything that has to do with Christianity, they perceive that they are foiling the ONLY ONE who can hold them accountable for those deeds.  Hence, they are their own gods.  I don’t see how you can miss that . . .

I admittedly made a mistake in interpreting that last line, he was emphasizing not leaving the establishment of government to chance, war or conquest.

Sorry about that.

The Biblical references and the rest stand alone though, and I believe that is quite clear.

Thanks for the quote CS. Can’t wait to what kind of spin can be put on this…

The quote below came from one of the LEAST religious of our Founding Fathers.  The undeniable references to Scripture would seem to indicate that even this mildy religious man recognized the importance of God in our government.  Notice at the the end he makes special reference to avoid HUMAN wisdom to perpetuate the existence of the newly formed Republic.

Here’s an excerpt from Benjamin Franklin’s speech at the Constitutional Convention in 1787:

“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: ‘that God governs in the affairs of man’.  And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?”
“We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writing that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this.  I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel; we shall be divided by our little, partial local interest; our projects will be confounded; and we ourselves shall become a reproach and a byword down to future ages.  And what is worse, mankind may hereafter, from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing government by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war, or conquest.”

Lets keep politics out of Religion. That being said, lets also enjoy the freedoms our forefathers have given to us which should include the freedom to give away books no matter what the content.

I believe in freedom of religion (or lack of religion) and I really do not get much of a thrill from debating one over another.  But, I do think schools at one time helped to re-enforce a good sense of moral values in children at a very early, formative age.  That built a moral foundation that carried over into adulthood even if a person later made a choice to go in a different spiritual direction.  Now all children see are constant conflicts with adults about what is right and wrong in this world.  That leaves them confused and morally vulnerable to negative influences.

Since O’Hair first got her way and started this antagonism over religion in public places we have had the opportunity to see two generations come full circle and the outcome does appear to be rather bleak.

...this board.
In reference to shubukin, I’m tired of liberals and conservaties, I’m tired of all politicians.  Everyone of them are self-serving, selfish, egotistical, and are only out for themselves.  But you can’t claim since separation of church and state took place there are more rapes, killings, etc. because THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!! There’s always been crime in society, but with 300 million people in a 24/7 news media focused on negative news, you just hear more about it.

CSAVIRGINIA,

I never claimed to coin any phrase, don’t put words in my mouth.  I’m sorry if i offended you, or Bamabob.  Christians aren’t the only “zealots”, there are wackos in every religion.  I would agree that the liberal media only publicizes when the Christian religion acts like crazies.  I’m not trying to bash the religion, but there HAS to be a separation of church and state.  You can’t have one religion have influence on the government if this country is supposed to be a melting pot of all religions and cultures(which is partly what is wrong with this country today).  I’m not a church going person, I do beleive in God and I do beleive Jesus died for our sins.  I hold a lot of respect for churchs because they are not afraid to speak their mind or be politically incorrect.  A lot of people in America are afraid to speak their minds because they don’t want to offend anyone.

Secular humanism is NOT a religion, thats perhaps the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen posted on.....
