It's the March Madness of education. 147 teachers across the state were nominated to become Alabama's Teacher of the Year. The field was whittled down to a sweet sixteen, and now only four teachers remain. One of those teachers is Regina Everett from Saraland Elementary School. Cranford Burns Middle Teacher Miranda Hendirx was selected to the state's sweet sixteen The winner will be announced May 7th in Montgomery. Two elementary school teachers and two secondary teachers will be interviewed by a panel of judges. Each school system in the state nominates a teacher from both levels of schooling. An elementary and secondary teacher are selected from each of the state's 8 districts to comprise the sweet sixteen. A selection committee selects a final four. The winner will serve as an ambassador for education in Alabama, and will present workshops and speeches across the state. Alabama's Teacher of the Year automatically qualifies for National Teacher of the Year.

-Amber Trantham, Alexandria Elementary School
Secondary
-Roy Hudson, Shades Valley High School
-Lawana Welt, Liberty Middle School
