Malt-O-Meal has voluntarily recalled two of kinds of cereal because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The unsweetened puffed rice and unsweetened puffed wheat cereals were sold at Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Winn-Dixie, Greer’s, and Wal-Mart stores in Alabama. They have “use by dates” between April 8, 2008, and March 18, 2009.
The cereals were also marketed under some private label brands including Acme, America's Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw’s, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, people infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in more severe illnesses, some potentially life-threatening.
You can find more information about the recall on Malt-O-Meal's website.
