Foley Police Chief David Wilson is on a mission...a mission to make Aaronville a safer place to live. A homicide on Mother's Day 2007 was the turning point for Wilson, who wants to make the public housing community more desirable.
"We're going to open up a community services precinct here inside the housing project," says Wilson. "We're taking a proactive approach to community policing, which I feel very strongly about."
The new precinct will house patrol officers and two community services police officers. The substation will offer educational opportunities for the community.
"We're going to offer G.E.D. classes and after-school tutoring says Sgt. Richard Roper. "I've already got a list of 15 people signed up for the G.E.D. class."
"For a police department to be successful, I feel like a relationship with the community is a big part of the it," says Officer Matt Cuellar. Cuellar and Roper will be running the new precinct.
The new police substation will open later this summer.
