Rice Ration Hitting Restaurants

With the cost of rice up 70 percent this year, some stores are rationing rice sales. Some restaurants are feeling the pinch too.

If you are a sushi lover, than you know you cannot have sushi without rice. But while some stores are rationing their rice sales, Samurai J Sushi Bar owner Jeanette Helvacioglu says the ration is not going to stop them from making sushi. Although Helvacioglu admits she's having to pay more for her rice. "I noticed the last shipment we got this past Saturday from the one before we got a 75 cents increase per bag... and in January we got a $2.75 increase, "Said Helvacioglu.
As it is Jeanette says they have to use a special kind of rice for their sushi rolls, so rationing rice is not an option. "We get about 8 bags, like 50 pound bags every two weeks, so we go through a lot of rice,"Said Helvacioglu. While there isn't a shortage in rice, the U.S. Rice Federation says the rice ration has to do with more people buying in bulk to avoid rising prices. Large Wholesale chains Sams Club and Costco, are limiting customers to four bags at time, of jasmine Basmati and long grain rice.

O.K. no more spanish, or fried rice for me. Got some taters???

Great job! Why don’t you try to scare more people! The media already makes people fear that we are about to burn up by “Global Warming” (LOL). Now you lead people to believe that there is a food shortage. Yes, the price has gone up, but there is no shortage. The main reason for “shortages” is people and business buying bulk while so they get the better price before there is an increase. Is there a shortage of paper towels when there is a great sale, and the shelves are bare? I don’t think so. Don’t believe all that you hear. Jsut because they say it on TV, DOES NOT mean it is true!
