The first of the tax rebates are being
deposited by the IRS into accounts across the country. The
government wants to make 800,000 direct deposits a day -- today,
tomorrow and Wednesday.
A survey indicates that taxpayers plan to use most of the money
to pay down debts, and that any shopping would be for food and
necessities, not luxury items.
The first paper checks will be mailed by the IRS on Friday, May
9th.
The rebates, which are expected to reach 130 million households,
include 600 dollars for an individual and 1,200 dollars per couple.
Families with children will get 300 dollars for each child.
They are part of a 168-billion dollar stimulus package that the
administration hopes will spur consumer spending and revive the
economy.

I haven’t received my check yet, and it’s no big deal!  What gets me is the many people I know who are checking their accts several x a day, getting upset that it isn’t there.  Yes, this IS “free” money.  Uncle Sam didn’t have to do this. Stop complaining, and be thankful for the “bonus” for being a working, tax paying, law abiding American citizen!!  And if you’re above the income level to receive any money, be even more thankful for that!  grin

My money was deposited. I did my civic duty and spent it.  My letter arrived about two weeks later explaining the amount of the money deposited.

I got a letter yesterday telling me to expect my money on May 16,2008.  I did not understand why I got a letter telling me I was getting the rebate instead of just sending the rebate to me.

The most that an individual will receive is $600.00 and the people who make the most money may not even receive that much.

If your tax debt was not that high, you are very lucky to receive anything at all.  Why complain about the small amount that you receive if you always get the money back, or never have to pay the taxes at all? Be thankful that you got money you were never expecting.

this money aint free. if you owe anythin to a state government or federal they get it. It is to help out the economy not to give back to the government. i thought you got it no matter what to help us out but it aint. also i think it is stupid that people who make more money get more. it should be the other way around. people who make less should get more. they need to get there heads on straight.

I got mine on May 2nd, which was when I was supposed too. My only complaint was that it was supposed to be $600, but I only got $300… oh well, I still got a nice new cell phone and a couple tanks of gas out of it =).

There is no such thing as free money.  If you need it that bad you will pay for it later.  Bush borrowed 2B to give everyone a check that is Just Over Broke.  That is equivalent to throwing chum bait for fish........you know it is an election year and he is and oil man.  Now folks will get their mind off of the gas prices.  I will not get a chum check because I am smarter than that
