The first ordinance proposed by council woman Connie Hudson could bring fines of up to $150 if your dog keeps barking or making noise for a long period of time.
A police officer has to witness the dog "breaking the law" before a citation is written.
The second ordinance proposed by council woman Gina Gregory requires owners cleaning up after their pets if they use the bathroom in a public place or anywhere other than at home.
A dog owner could face a $25 fine for that violation.
"Our bottom line, my bottom line, is not have cops on every corner writing municipal offenses tickets for a dog and an owner who does not clean up. My goal is to educate the community to know that they need to do this. That's part of what this whole process is about to educate the community to the fact that if you have a dog. If you go to the park, especially, and the dog goes with you, you clean up after your dog," said Mobile City Councilwoman Gina Gregory.
The ordinances are still up for discussion and need to be revised.
They will then be sent to the city council to be voted on.

Richardson Responds To Murphy Brawl

Low......may I invite to come and spend a day at my house. My neighbor has a Jack Russell Terrier which they leave outside from about 7am until about 8pm - some times as late at 11:00pm or midnight. This dog barks NON-STOP the ENTIRE time it’s outside. Many times, the dad is home during the day but he just leaves the dog outside anyway. I can’t tell you how often I get woken up by this dog...especially on the weekends when I have the opportunity to sleep in. You would think the dog would get tired of barking but it doesn’t. I have considered even moving just to get away from this dog. Yes I have spoken with my neighbors, but it just goes in one ear and out the other. This ordinance would be a God send....
