The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that killed 39 year old Jessica Tran of Mobile.
It happened Saturday on Interstate 10, just west of the MS-609 exit.
According to a report in the Mississippi Sun-Herald, Frazier Edwards of Theodore was driving east-bound, apparently fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the median and hit Tran's car head-on.
A family friend told news 5 Tran's nieces were injured. 4 year old Jasmine Shelton was taken to USA Women's and Children's Hospital in Mobile for treatment.
The friend says the other niece, 4 year old Jasime Shelton was not as seriously injured as her sister.
Jessica Tran taught History at Murphy High School in Mobile for the past 10 years.
Plans are being finalized for a memorial service in her memory.
