Polygamists Say They Live A Normal Life

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) - Custody hearings begin in Texas this
morning for 416 children seized in the raid on a polygamist ranch
earlier this month.
The hearing in San Angelo will decide whether they'll be placed
in permanent state custody. Texas officials allege a pattern of
abuse by adults, including marriages between young girls and older
men.
Sect members deny children were abused.
Under Texas law, the Child Protective Services department, an
attorney for each child and attorneys for the parents must be given
a chance to weigh in on whether the children should remain in state
custody.
Typically each child also is given a separate hearing, but it's
likely the judge will initially request consolidated hearings due
to the large number of youngsters.
The compound was raided by law officers searching for a
16-year-old girl who claimed her husband beat and raped her.

The whole commune thing for like-minded people is not necessarily a bad thing.  The line is crossed when parents start giving up their under-aged daughters as some type of matrimonial sacrifice.  That is creepy and wrong!

How does the family unit work in those compounds? Do all the wives of one man care for that guy’s children, or do the biological mothers take care of their own? One woman said she had twelve kids and had only been at that place for a few months.  It is hard to understand the dynamics of the place and it is probably even harder for Texas law to sort it all out.

They are just like any religious cult. They truly believe they are leading a righteous and Christian life but have a blatant disregard for the laws by which the rest of society lives.

Normal?  Ha! So very sad for those children!  Those women are obviously brainwashed or drugged.  Where is the young woman who spilled the beans?

I saw those women on Fox yesterday morning and they were all robots!  Any time they were asked tough questions they would say they were not aware of the problem and then take the conversation in another direction.

Something is up with those people!

I think both parents should be required to stand with each child when appearing in court. If a parent is missing ,a warrant should be issued. If a parent refuses to name the other parent, they should be cited for contempt of the court, arrested and the child taken by children protection services. As for all this assistance they received from state and federal government to keep and promote this illegal life style, they should be required to pay it back.I’m talking about the church they refer to as a ranch.Hit them in the pocket book where it will really get their attention.

Rhetorical headline ! I don’t see where in the article the Polygamists say anything. Be that as it may I will retort. That’s only normal in the Little House on the Prairie meets the Twilight Zone episode.
