Investigators in Baldwin County have arrested the parents of a boy accused of participating in a multi-state theft ring. Bret and Rita Helton have been charged with 1st degree receiving stolen property.
"We believe the Helton's knew their son was stealing property and keeping it inside the house," says Capt. Steve Arthur with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. "That's why we arrested them and charged them."
Earlier this month, four teenagers were arrested on theft charges after police in Foley found hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property at their homes. Investigators found stolen guns, clothes, farm equipment, construction equipment and even a logging truck.
"We've taken the Foley case one step further," says Arthur. "There's no way the boy's parents could not know about the stolen items."
The Helton's are free on bond. Arthur says more arrests in the case are likely.
