Jeff Rogers, a spokesperson for Gulf Power, says power has been restored to everyone in the Avalon Boulevard area of Santa Rosa County. Power was out for about two hours.

Severe weather pounded the Florida Panhandle damaging at least seven homes. Two families are homeless and hundreds of people without power.

Sonya Daniels with Escambia County's Emergency Management Agency says the storms badly damaged two homes in the 100 block of Century Boulevard. That's in an unincorporated area between McDavid and Century. Both families are homeless. The Red Cross is trying to help them find a place to stay for the night. Six other homes in the same area suffered minor damage.

Santa Rosa County is reporting downed power lines, downed trees and structural damage to a barn near Highway 179 and Penton Road.

Gulf Power Company is working to restore power to about 1,000 homes in the Avalon Boulevard area of Santa Rosa County.

During the storms, several 100 homes in the Bayou Chico area outside Pensacola lost power for a short time.

I’m all in favor of underground power lines ,but for the power company it means a lot more upkeep and money. We have a few communities with all underground utilities but not as many as we should have. I believe Spanish Trace in Saraland is one of them.It really looks nice without the power poles and lines running overhead.

Disasters, Hurricanes, Ice Storms, Wind Storms. We’ve all seen the after-effects, entire communities without power. It’s reported that on average 3.5 million people lose their power in the US each week! We bought a generator from MainPowerConnect.com that now ensures our family has the power needed when faced with unexpected outages. With Standby Power, our home and business stays warm, secure systems stays armed and well lighted. With our generator the sump pumps keep running protecting us against flooding and keeping our food cold and fresh.

Still don’t understand why power lines are not underground.
