The head of Northrop Grumman says if Congress tries to block a contract to build Air Force tankers, it would undermine the entire procurement process.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Northrop Grumman Corporation's chief executive
says Congress would undermine the entire government procurement
process if it tries to block a 35 billion dollar Air Force contract
won by his company and its European partner.
Two days after Boeing filed its official protest of the air
tanker award, Northrop Chairman and CEO Ronald Sugar said letting
Congress step in and change the rules of the procurement game would
make companies simply not want to play.
The company has hired former Senators Trent Lott, of
Mississippi, and John Breaux, of Louisiana, to make its case.
On February 29th, the Air Force awarded a high-stakes aerial
refueling tanker contract to what many considered the underdog team
of European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company and Northrop
Grumman. The two companies selected Mobile for their assembly
plant.

call it a temper tantrum, if you will but it reminds me of bid rigging!
It’s ok to bid as long as boeing gets the contract, what a crock!
the ones in washington were the first to cry foul. It was not over the contract, it was their loss of their golden goose, that they have become so dependant upon!!!

remember the troops and protect them with quality equipment, whick they can get right here in mobile!!

Well Boeing you lost fair and square.  I guess you think you can push Alabamians around.  Now go pout and get over it.  Sorry, but you can’t hit a home run every time.

This sounds like a little child who didn’t get their way, so they are throwing a temper tantrum. This was a legal, fair competition and Boeing lost. If it was an illegal bid that should have been made clear in the beginning and Northrop
Grumman should not have been allowed to even participate. What do you think all this bickering makes us look like in the eyes of the rest of the world?

And as far as the jobs going to a foreign country…

The last time I checked, Alabama was still a part of the United States of America. I don’t know if they think all Southerners (especially Alabamians) walk around barefoot, chewing straw and playing in water holes or just plain stupid and incapable of doing the work. However, we are as capable and deserve the same opportunity for economic growth as other areas of the country. Why should Kansas be more deserving of this contract than Mobile? This argument leaves a lot to be desired.

What about Boeing new plant in Mexico City?  How long before Boeing starting moving jobs down there and out of Washington State?  What will all these Politicians say then?

I agree with Northrop!

In recent years Boeing tried to get around the laws on two very large defense contracts and now they want the law changed so that our military can only purchase aircraft from them.  According to them, price and performance should go out the window and the new slogan should be Buy Boeing!

Boeing’s claims about lost American jobs and security irk me!  The clowns don’t even realize they are living in a glass house while throwing stones!

I hope our guys fighting for our freedom realize what Boeing and a few congressmen from Washington and Kansas are doing to their potential safety!!!!!!!
