SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Pull over and put down the dog.
A California lawmaker wants to ban motorists from holding pets
on their laps while driving. Getting caught can net a $35 fine. The
bill passed the California Assembly on a 44-11 vote on Monday, and
heads to the Senate.
Assemblyman Bill Maze says his legislation has nothing to do
with pet-loving celebrities who are photographed driving around Los
Angeles with their small dogs.
Maze says he introduced the bill after seeing a woman driving
with three dogs on her lap.
He says pets are a distraction that put motorists and their
passengers at risk.

I had a mini-pen like that. A few years back we had a place in Washington county and every three or four weeks we had to go cut grass and check on the place. The mini-pen didn’t like to travel a lot, but when we went she would hop up in the back seat and sit there looking around and hold her bladder until we got there. I still kid my neighbor about his big white bull dog sitting up in the seat of his truck with him when he goes somewhere. He’s single again and I tell him his dates are starting to look like real dogs. Some of them can become just like a child to you if you get one of the good ones.

My old dog did love to take a ride in my truck and he would sit very politely in the passenger seat. I would loop a leash around the seat and hook it to his harness so he wouldn’t topple off the seat during a sudden stop. He really did love to take a ride from time to time.

I would find it easier to accept if they were going ten to fifteen mph with a animal in their lap, but about all i have seen seem to driving HEII bent on leather( really fast). What makes me really cringe is to see a pickup flying along with kids hanging out over the tail gate and sides and the driver talking to one of their friends in the cab with them. Kids could be scattered up and down the road for a mile before they realized it. MERCY! Will I call the police? You bet, And they usually show up about 30 minutes later, I guess due to higher priority calls or what ever. We have dogs that are not the brightest ,but we have a lot more mentally challenged dog owners and some of them don’t even have the IQ of a common yard dog.

If you were in my jurisdiction and you killed someone while driving with a dog on your lap. I would ask the court to sentence you to fifty years. You know that driving with a child on your lap is wrong. Don’t you? If you here justifying driving with your pet on
Your lap you may have a more serious physiological problem. It’s not cute! It’s not
Funny! It’s not only dangerous for you. But, If puts my family at risk. I guess what they say is true. “ There are not stupid dogs. Just stupid dog owners!!” Shame On You!!

My old dog used to take a ride in my truck. Sometimes I would turn the lights off and let him drive down Airport. :LOL:
