New homes will now have to withstand higher wind speeds.
The Director of Inspection Services says new homes built in south Mobile County will have to withstand 147 mile per hour winds.
New homes in north Mobile County, such as Calvert, will have to withstand 118 mile per hour winds.
The director tells News 5 that homes currently under construction are not affected, but most are already following the new standards.
