primary residences received damage from Hurricane Katrina's storm
surge will be receiving money to elevate their homes above new
federal flood requirements.
Jon Mabry, who heads the Mississippi Development Authority's
Disaster Recovery Division, says the first checks were mailed this
week.
He says other applications are being worked on.
The elevation grant program is designed to help qualified
homeowners meet federal requirement that homesites comply with
environmental and building code mandates.
Mabry says approved applicants can get up to $30,000.

Urgent Need For Accurate Hurricane Forecasts

I see a lot about elevation grant programs for Mississippi but nothing about Alabama having one,and believe me,after Katrina i dearly need something like that.My house is on a slab and we got a foot of water in the house for the first time in over forty years. No flood insurance,No home owner’s insurance because they priced us out a number of years ago,but it’s nice to see somebody getting some relief or help.
