Boat captains Scotty Bowman and Wade Weidenbach had the fishing adventure of a lifetime Monday! "We were fishing for redfish about 300 yards off the mouth of Perdido Key and we saw this shark come up near the boat and then went under us," says Bowman. "We thought we'd play with it and get its attention. Well, we got its attention that's for sure!"
The monster mako took the bait but then took the 17-foot boat for a ride out in the Gulf.
"He was a tough one," says Weidenbach. "It's a humbling thing to see a killing machine like this, there was a degree of danger to it."
Three hours later, the boat crew was able to haul in the monster from the deep.
"The mako is the King of the Gulf," says Weidenbach. "This was definitely an early Christmas present."
The captains say they're going to clean and mount the shark's jaw and say they'll be eating shark steaks well in the New Year.
