Mobile County Public School Superintendent Dr. Roy Nichols says he and staff members are saddened by today's events. His prayers go out to Jajuan Holmes' family and the Davidson High School students who were his friends.
The 18 year old student shot himself in the Davidson High School Gymnasium this morning.

Dr. Roy Nichols says none of the schools in the system have metal detectors. He says that school resource officers do have security wands, but that students checks are done at random. Dr. Roy Nichols says that installing metal detectors in all schools will not be done at this time, but the school system would like to buy more security wands.

News 5's Kesshia Peyton spoke with Dr. Roy Nichols. She will have more on his reaction on the shooting at Davidson High School tonight on News 5 at 5:00 and 6:00.

well there is something wrong with the system here.  Why would he show up when he makes more than the President and he doesn’t even have to waste his time doing his JOB.  Wake up and kick him out of his position, he is paid by the taxpayer.  What part of I don’t give a dont you understand from him.  He is doing what he wants.  Do something about it.

excuse me, the superintendent of the MCPPS makes more than the President of the Unites States.  There is areal money problem here.  If I had that large of a budget deficit in my house on the same scale.  I would be homeless and they would take my kids away from me.  Maybe its time for a change.

Especially since he didn’t even show up at DHS, to counsel the students…

So we are going to buy more security wands for the schools and fire a bunch of teachers?  Does anyone else think something is wrong here?
