Fairhope Police Chief Mike Comalander told News 5 his officers responded to a burglary call on Blue Berry Lane around 2:00 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, police saw a man coming out of the home with something in his arms. Chief Comalander says when the man saw police, he dropped the items and ran into a wooded area.
News 5 first reported on wkrg.com that the burglary suspect fired shots at the officer. But we have since learned, that was not the case. According to Chief Comalander, someone said they heard a loud bang. As far as police know, the suspect was not armed and no shots were ever fired.
Fairhope police, the Baldwin County Sheriff's office, K-9 units and a helicopter searched the wooded area. Police arrested the suspect at Highway 104 and Lawrence Road. He has not been charged with anything yet.
