Hurricane Katrina destroyed Gene Cherry's home in Moss Point.
since then, he's been living in his 8 x 10 tool shed in his backyard.
FEMA did give him a trailer, but Cherry said it caused him a lot of health problems.
He moved back into the shed, which had no heat and he had to ration out his water supply.
Some "guardian angels" heard about his struggles and they got together and built him a new home.
"It wasn't easy. I had to boil water to be able to wash myself and used the good water and then I had to maintain that and at that same speed, sometimes I ain't bathe in three months," said Gene Cherry of Moss Point, Mississippi.
A dedication ceremony was held Tuesday morning..
It took five months and more than 500 hours from volunteers to build Cherry's new home
