life prison without parole for murdering a UAB student in November
2006.
At a hearing Monday, Circuit Judge Mac Parsons followed the
jury's recommended sentence for Justin Matthew White. Prosecutors
had sought the death penalty.
In February, White was convicted of capital murder in the death
of UAB nursing student Sierra Black of Tuscaloosa. Court records
showed the 20-year-old victim died of strangulation and her body
was placed in a car trunk. The vehicle was found behind an
abandoned grocery store in Bessemer.
Before the sentence was announced, White apologized for his
crime and said what he did was "heinous."
