The Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association is considering a shorter route for its mammoth parade on Fat Tuesday.
MAMGA float riders and the association board met Wednesday night to talk about the change.
According to MAMGA, the parade route was five miles long last year. The proposed shorter route would be 3.8 miles.
Some members and float riders are not supporting a route change. A MAMGA spokesperson says they are trying to come up with an agreement. They hope to have the route issue worked out in a couple of days. Fat Tuesday is February 5.

As a former band parent that marched the mamga parade for 5 consective years, I feel that shortening the route is best; if the association wants the local high schools to participate again. currently, my two oldest sons are now in college and both of their schools were here last year for mardi gras. both schools were not pleased with the long route from monday’s or tuesday’s parades. one of my sons tried to prepare his school for the long route, but after the parade was over, they asked him, “why didn’t you tell us it was this long?” he said, “I did tell you, but you thought I was playing jokes on you.” I do not know, as of yet, if either of them will be here this year or not.
