passes to Patrick Rivers and the Leroy Bears rallied today to
defeat Fyffe 25-20 for their second straight Class 2A championship.
Down by 1 in the fourth quarter, Leroy (14-1) got the ball at
the 50 after a short punt, and Moseley threw a 32-yard TD pass to
Rivers with 7:14 remaining to give the Bears their first lead since
the second quarter.
Fyffe (14-1) had a chance to pull out the win, getting the ball
at its own 14 with 1:32 remaining. But the Red Devils went backward
on their first two plays because of penalties, and the Leroy
defense held on downs to preserve the win.
Moseley, the game MVP, also threw scoring passes of 5 and 27
yards to Rivers, who had seven catches for 120 yards. Detrick
Powell added the Bears' other touchdown on a 1-yard run.
Fyffe's Kyle Greeson ran for touchdowns of 17 and 22 yards and
he led all rushers with 106 yards on 12 carries.
Leroy, located in southwest Alabama in Washington County, won
despite missing all but one of its extra points.
Fyffe is in northeast Alabama in DeKalb County.
