Comfortably resting in her mother's arms, Dankia Kaleigh McKenna is sleeping through the only birthday she'll have in the next four years."We were sitting at the house and I asked if she wanted me to take her to the hospital and she said no," said the proud dad, Billy Mac McKenna. "About thirty minutes later she said take me to the hospital!"
Kami Morgan, Danika's mother, gave birth just a couple hours after arriving at Mobile Infirmary. Their 6 lb. 8 oz. bundle of joy arrived around 2:30 Friday morning.
McKenna and Morgan say they weren't expecting a Leap Year baby. Dankia was due on March 2nd.
"I like it," said McKenna. "It's different than everybody else."
Ina Hall, the nurse manager for the hospital's newborn nursery, says when Danika gets older she'll really appreciate her special birthday.
"Since she's female and females do not like to share their age," said Hall, who went on to say Danika will technically only be ten years old when she should be forty.
The next time Danika will celebrate her birthday on February 29th will be in 2012.
Four other mothers were in labor at Mobile Infirmary while News Five was shooting this story.
