look at the future of military housing at Keesler Air Force Base on
the Mississippi coast.
Keesler officials on Thursday put on display the first 36
completed homes in the Thrower Park subdivision.
Hurricane Katrina destroyed most of the base's 1,600 military
homes in August 2005.
The homes opened Thursday are the first of 1,000 new homes to be
available at Keesler.
Colonel Greg Touhill, commander of the 81st Training Wing, said
another 54 homes will open soon.
Touhill said the new housing carries a price tag of about $287
million.
