Thomas resigned October 1st amid allegations that he was paddling prisoners at the Mobile Metro Jail.
He was also accused of manipulating a jail sentence for his cousin and swapping cases on other judge's dockets.
Taking Thomas' spot on the bench will be Mobile attorney Michael Youngpeter.
Youngpeter graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1982 and then earned his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1987.
His appointment to the bench is effective immediately.
