Joseph Toomey says he got choked up when he saw a crowd of family and friends waiting on his front lawn, when he returned home today (Friday).
"It shows how much people love me, makes me feel good. I about cried, but I held it all, I was fighting it all,"Said the Satsuma teenager.
Instead, he couldn't help but smile, while a room full of loved ones began to serenade him. "It was amazing to see him, joyful and happy and stuff...the best way to see him,"Said Steven Lumpkin, a close friend of Joseph.
His progress, is what many in the community have prayed for. Like Paige Howell, a close friend of the family, who has organized several fundraisers over the past couple of months to help the Toomeys. After an accident last November, nearly took his life, leaving him paralyzed. "Everybody's got to step up to the plate to do something, it could be you, it could be me, it could be my child,"Said Howell.
Joseph will be home for ten days, then he'll head back to Shepherd Center in Atlanta, where he is undergoing therapy. His mother says the therapy will be for the next two years. A family friend tells us a fundraiser is in the works to buy a van to help transport Joseph.
His parents have set up this website, to share his progress.
