JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi's gaming industry has set anew revenue record for 2007.
The record is more than $2.89 billion -- says the Mississippi
Gaming Commission today (Thursday).
The previous record was $2.77 billion in 2004, the year before
Hurricane Katrina wiped out casinos along the Mississippi Gulf
Coast in August 2005.
The 2007 figure compares to $2.57 billion in 2006.
Last year Gulf Coast casinos won $1.3 billion while the
Mississippi River casinos saw revenue of $1.58 billion in 2007.
Win, or casino revenue, is the net amount of money won from
gamblers. It is not profit.
Gaming revenue represents money earned from the casino
operations. It does not include money made from restaurants, spas
and other resort amenities.
