The Escambia County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Michael McGhee escaped from a work release center in Brewton. McGhee, who was originally arrested on drug charges, was scheduled to be transfered to the state prison in Atmore today. The Sheriff's Office brought in a dog team from Century, FL and Atmore to help in the manhunt. But they called it off before 1 o'clock this afternoon because of the heat. McGhee is considered a non-violent criminal. Deputies are following up on leads and are trying to find out where McGhee might hide out.
