Michael Salter Junior loved being a volunteer firefighter, but he may have loved the thrill of riding fire trucks even more. Salter was arrested Wednesday night and charged with two counts of rendering a false alarm. Investigators say the Stapleton volunteer firefighter called 911 and reported two bogus car wrecks this week.

"I'm disappointed and kind of taken back by the whole situation," says Stapleton Fire Chief Tim Pouncey. "I'm hurt because of the breach of trust we put into this gentleman and then for him to do something like this."

Investigators say Salter admitted to making the false calls and told detectives he did it because he liked to ride on fire trucks.

"You don't waste money or put people's lives at risk because you like fire trucks," says Pouncey. "Salter has been suspended and he'll probably never fight fires in Baldwin County again."

Personally I think they should imprison him for the maximum amount of time allowed for the crimes he committed.I have known the Salter’s for well over ten years now and trust me...everyone in that family is competent including Michael.He knows very well the difference between right and wrong.His Mother and Father are both wonderful people who did the utmost possible raising and teaching all five of their children.Michael chooses intentionally and with concious forethought to ignore what he knows to be right in favor of what he wants to do.I just feel sorry for his parents and sisters because word travels extremely fast in Fairhope,AL.Within just a few minutes of this story being posted I received five phone calls asking if I heard about Michael Salter and now because of what he did his family has to walk around with the shame of his actions looming over their head.

Just what was the fire chief thinking in the first place?

I can answer that ! In a Vol. Fd it is hard to tell someone that you can not be a member. If someone wants to give up there time to help people in there community how can you not give them a chance. In a Vol. Fd there are jobs for everyone. Hope that answered that question.

He had only been a fireman for 3 days and only rode in the fire truck 1 time.

I think it speaks highly of the fire dept. Firefighting is a very serious thing and for this fire dept to realize what was going on and act in such a quick manner makes me want to give them pat on the back.

Just what was the fire chief thinking in the first place? I doubt Mike even comprehends what he has done is even wrong, I’ve known these kids since they were in Grade School and it only takes a few seconds of talking with them to see they should have never been put in a Fireman position to start with.

Now don’t take this post the wrong way, what he did was wrong and now he needs to pay the Fiddler

I am sorry...I know he shouldn’t have done it, but I can’t help but chuckle...He just wanted to wide the wittle twuck!! LOL!! I wonder if things like this only happen in the south. poor guy. now he has to go to jail…

This guy gives all VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS a bad name. Everytime a fire truck rolls the City, County or Community that it represents has just took on a new liability. A firefighter could be hurt(medical expenses), a fire truck could be involved or cause an accident (property damage, medical expenses, punitive damages???) Not to mention with gas $3.00 a gallon and diesel $3.19 a gallon what it cost to “RIDE” in the truck.

I sincerely hope that this joker is put off the fire department and banned for joining another for his irresponsible behavior.

And for the record I have been a Volunteer firefighter for 17 years and I take the responsiblity seriously as should anyone else who is going to be a firefighter, paid or volunteer.

How dare you insult this boy! At least he didn’t start a fire! I don’t think that what he done was right, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to make fun of him. This should not be allowed.

What a dufus… so he satisfied his little pleasure center with truck rides, while there was the possibility of a real tragedy occuring at the same time resulting in not enough protection for those in real need.
Oh well he dosnt look to bright anyway!!
